A cross section of the sector’s leaders, the speakers in the keynote session are responsible for logistics spend in the billions of dollars worldwide and speak from the perspective of both buyer and provider of logistics services. Within the session the speakers talk about how changing patterns of demand have influenced the architecture of their physical distribution requirements in Asia Pacific. They look at the impact of evolving economic, political, social, technological and environmental drivers and how the supply side is changing to meet these needs.
The Global Enabling Trade Report 2008 is a brand new index initiated by the World Economic Forum casting light on how easy or difficult it is to conduct logistics in countries throughout the world. Many CP companies employ Direct Store Delivery (DSD) to secure minimum service levels in emerging countries. SAP and the Universität Regensburg have recently undertaken a major empirical study on DSD covering the international consumer goods industry. Given the region's under-developed infrastructure and dispersed population, asset tracking is an important area for development and one which could bring huge savings to manufacturers and retailers. Operations in Cross-docking centre & warehouses are often a forgotten topic when performance of the entire supply chain is addressed. The performance of these facilities is hard to measure because there is no integration between intra-logistics (the flow of goods into the warehouse) and extra logistics.
